Church Beliefs |
|
What do Seventh-day Adventists Believe? Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as their only creed and hold certain fundamental beliefs to be the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. These beliefs, as set forth here, constitute the church's understanding and expression of the teaching of Scripture. Revision of these statements may be expected at a General Conference session when the church is led by the Holy Spirit to a fuller understanding of Bible truth or finds better language in which to express the teachings of God's Holy Word. 1. The Holy Scriptures: The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God's acts in history. (2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Ps. 119:105; Prov. 30:5, 6; Isa. 8:20; John 17:17; 1 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 4:12.) |

Wear Your Shoes I was in Fujieda attending the “Campamento Adventista 2010” (2010 Adventist Camp). Once a year all the South American churches of Japan get together for a time of spiritual refreshment and fellowship. On Friday I went to the parking lot to look for something in my car and as I was coming back I saw this very interesting sight. There was a guy walking barefoot on the gravel. He was tiptoeing along because the stones were hot and sharp. Now the thing that got my attention was that, while walking barefoot, he was holding a pair of shoes in his hands! He had shoes but for some reason, despite the obvious pain he was experiencing, he did not want to wear them… how foolish, I thought. But then my mind turned to spiritual things and I realized that for a long time I too had tried to run the Christian race with the shoes in my hands. I had tried to be a good Christian; I walked on the hot and sharp stones of life barefoot, only to find myself hurting more and more. The more I tried the more I failed and the guiltier I felt. How about you? Are you tired of trying to be a good Christian to no avail? Are you hurting and feeling guilty? Are you about to give up? Could it be that you too are walking with your shoes in your hands? Then maybe I need to tell you what I have learned. |
